Help and support

Last updated 6 October 2026

Write to jagc.uggeshall@gmail.com with anything at all: a question, something that looks wrong, or a tree the app will not let you record. Say which tree and what you were trying to do, and a reply will come from a person, usually within two days.

Signing in

Accounts are set up by hand for each collection, so there is no sign-up screen. To ask for one, write to jagc.uggeshall@gmail.com. If you have forgotten your password, choose “Forgotten your password?” on the sign-in screen and a reset link will be emailed to you.

Why was a location not saved?

The phone reports how sure it is of its position. Within 10 metres counts as good. Up to 40 metres is saved but marked rough, so you can improve it on a later visit. Anything less certain is not saved, because it could put a tree in the wrong place. Under a heavy canopy, stepping into the open for a few seconds usually helps.

I had no signal. Is my work safe?

Yes. Everything is saved on the phone first, and kept there if the app or the phone is switched off. Records are sent as soon as there is a connection. Photographs wait in a queue and are sent the next time the app is opened, or brought back to the screen, with a connection. While anything is waiting, the bar under the heading says how many changes are waiting to sync. Please do not sign out while anything is waiting: signing out clears the phone’s copy, and the app will warn you if you try.

Bringing my existing records in

When a collection is set up, its existing records can be brought across, so every tree is already listed before the first walk round. Send them to jagc.uggeshall@gmail.com in whatever form they are kept. The easiest to work with is a table with one row per tree and a heading row:

  • Name, the Latin name. This is the only column needed. Cultivar names in quotes are kept as written.
  • Common name, Area (a bed, section or part of the garden), Planted (a year is enough), Notes, Accession and Origin, if you have them.

A spreadsheet (Excel or CSV) or a table in a Word document can be read directly. An example shows the layout. Anything else, such as a planting plan, a card index or a notebook, can still be brought in. It takes a little longer, because it is read by hand.

Every name is checked against Kew’s World Checklist of Vascular Plants before anything is saved. Where Kew uses a different name or spelling, you are sent both, and nothing is changed without your say. Names Kew does not list, which in a collection of rarities may be many, are kept exactly as you wrote them.

Getting my records out

On the website, choose the list, pick the columns you want and export them as a spreadsheet, or print them as a planting list. The export includes every location and a link to every photograph.

Deleting my account

Write to jagc.uggeshall@gmail.com. Everything is removed within 30 days. See the privacy page for what that covers.
